A to Z meme

I'm bored, so let's analyze Zoro. Some answers High Seas-related.

Alignment :: What would be their D&D alignment? How might it come into play?

No idea and I don't care.

Beverage :: What do they most like to drink, and why?

Alcohol - but specifically, he favors sake even if it's weaker than some liquors. He does prefer his drink neat, no ice and no mixers, and often room temp instead of chilled - because sake is often not chilled. His top five list would be sake, rum, ale (not beer), whiskey, and "all other hard liquors." He isn't a huge fan of regular beer and most wines, nor cognac. Aside from that, he doesn't mind coffee, isn't a fan of tea but will drink it, and rather enjoys fresh milk after a workout.

Co-Habitate :: Do they live with anyone? What’s “need to know” before moving in?

His crew. He sleeps in the men's cabin with whoever happens to be there at the time, in a hammock (or, on the Sunny, in the hanging bunk). He doesn't care about other people's habits nor does he really care if his own are disruptive, they all have to live together regardless.

Decor :: What kind of home do they keep? Are there any defining details?

Zoro's personal effects are pretty spartan, he doesn't keep keepsakes except for those on his person. Because he lived as a nomad for so long, he doesn't keep anything that can't be hurriedly stuffed in a backpack and toted away. He likes the color green but also black. He doesn't bother decorating, he doesn't really care for art or nick-knacks or anything.

Escape :: What do they do to destress? How successful is it?

He works out, often for hours at a time. It's very effective in many ways.

Fluff :: What hits their soft spot? Does anything them into emotional goo?

He can be touched by circumstances, and relationships. Because he had no siblings, he feels drawn to anyone who treats him like an older brother (Chopper, Luffy). Appeals to his pride work, and being shown true appreciation, respect, and care. He may not admit it, but he likes to feel wanted and needed, and he tends to bond with people who treat him with the give-and-take of an equal, respectful relationship. Other than that he's really hard to crack, he doesn't get emotional and doesn't let down his walls easily, if at all. He's still a bit of a stiff rock even when he likes someone and is happy to be around them.

Grudge :: How bad does an insult go over? Do they hold a grudge long?

Zoro doesn't really hold grudges, but he is very easily provoked. At least by certain people, Sanji just has to open his mouth and Zoro will kick his ass. But when it comes to serious conflicts, strong foes, and real situations, he fights and then lets go. He doesn't hold on to hatred or anger.

Hobby :: What’s something they do for fun that might be surprising?

Nothing! Zoro is boring. He works out, spars, cleans/sharpens his swords, and thinks about fighting and swords. And drinks. He does occasionally read but nothing too intellectual.

Insomnia :: What’s their sleeping schedule like? Snorer? Sound sleeper?

We know from canon that Zoro sleeps about three hours a night (WHAT) and then naps throughout the day. He's the one who takes night watch most often, taking the first shift and then going to bed about four in the morning. When he sleeps, though, he sleeps like a goddamn log. He can sleep through a storm that has the ship pitching violently. Yet, at the same time, if the situation calls for it, his haki will wake him in an instant, such as when he's guarding the ship alone. He snores if he's flat on his back, but if he's even the slightest bit curled up, he'll be quiet.

Jaded :: Do they buy into the “happily ever after” ideal? What’s their standard?

Hell no. Zoro's assumptions for life is that things like romance and marriage and family are for civilians, for people who want to settle down on an island and raise said family and have a simple job for the rest of their lives, never travel, never see danger. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but that's not his life. He has given himself up for dead, and lives now as a pirate unafraid of death, and has as much expectation to die seeking his goal as to actually survive and achieve it. He doesn't think you need anything in life to be happy except to pursue your dream and live with no regrets. He has no interest in settling down, nor ever retiring from his life as the (future) Pirate King's right hand if he manages to live that long.

Kin :: What’s their role among their relations? Do they consider others family?

I headcanon that he has no blood family, because seriously, if his parents were alive, why wouldn't they seek him out? Why wouldn't they have gone looking for him as soon as the name "Pirate Hunter" became widely known in East Blue? The only way I could see them being still alive - IF he didn't just wander off and get lost one day as a child - is if they lived right in Shimotsuki and knew everything about his goals and intentions for leaving the island, and decided sure, why not, that sounds great, you just go and do that Zoro. But that's a strange way to treat your only child, unless you really don't care. But, since his extended flashback in the anime showed him only saying goodbye with any sort of emotion to his sensei, I don't think he had anyone else, quite literally.

Anyway. He does consider the crew like family, though he doesn't have any sworn bonds of brotherhood the way Luffy does with Ace and Sabo. He has the idealist-pirate's view of crew, where he will protect and care for his crewmates with more love and dedication than most people would toward blood relations.

Law :: What do they think about abiding rules? Are they selective about it?

While Zoro doesn't exactly flaunt his piracy, he also really doesn't have a problem breaking the law. If it happens, it happens. His sense of right is nothing like the law's ideal of justice, he knows just how corrupt the World Government is and that corruption pervades even the Marines, so he considers their justice to be so much hot air. But, he doesn't walk into a town and decide he's going to steal, plunder, and raze it, because he's not into deliberately committing crimes. He isn't evil, after all. He believes in a balance between "live and let live" and "need to survive." So, he'll take plundered gold from Skypeia with a smile, but wouldn't do anything to harm the natives over it.

Magic :: In a magic series or not, are they accepting, or is each instance a shock?

No magic in One Piece. Zoro, like most of the main cast, knows full well things like Devil Fruit exist, but things can still take him by surprise and shock. Like living toys and real dragons. Islands of bizarre weather patterns. A lot of what goes on in the Grand Line isn't normal by the rest of the world's standards, so encountering them for the first time still makes him go "BUWHAAAA?"

Network :: Are they connected to the people? How much do they reach out to others?

Not much. Zoro likes to stay abreast of important information, but people in the High Seas world are boring and a lot of them are real wet-behind-the-ears rookies with absolutely nothing in common with him. He's not into hand-holding and being a mentor for all of them, so he usually just looks at his journal, snorts, and doesn't respond. It has to be regarding something important to him before he'll pay attention, let alone strike up a conversation.

Offspring :: What kind of parent would they be? Would they prefer one, or multiple?

Hahahaha no way. Zoro will never be a parent. He tolerates children, in some situations, but doesn't want any of his own. His lifestyle and his desire to solely focus on swordsmanship and the Pirate King are not compatible with settling down and being a father.

Pistol :: Is this character skilled with a weapon? What’s their opinion of violence?

This is a trick question, right? XD ASIDE FROM HIS SWORDS Zoro probably knows how to use a pistol if necessary but fuck that noise. It's all about swords. Nothing but swords. Sometimes his fists. He isn't one of those weird samurai-types who preaches about pacifism and nonviolence while cutting people's heads off, he knows full well that he's violent and he doesn't care. But he's not actively violent - he only fights those who take the fight to him, not random people on the street, and not everybody who looks at him wrong.

Question :: How often do they feel doubt? What topics are they defensive about?

Zoro used to doubt himself more before the timeskip - he was fine, more or less, up until Thriller Bark, and then the double whammy of facing Kuma and then being defeated on Sabaody really tore him up and showed him his weaknesses. He used to fear being too weak to protect the crew. But now, he's over that, for the most part. If he doubts anything, it's hidden very deep inside. Like, he doesn't think he belongs as captain of anyone, he doesn't want to be, but he will still man up and do it if he has to. His ambition is not to be a captain of his own crew.

He is, however, very protective of his personal information. He doesn't tell anyone anything about himself. He doesn't even tell them about his past, about Kuina, let alone that he trained with Mihawk for two years. It's all his personal secret, not that any of it is too tragic or awful to share - he just doesn't share. So anyone trying to pry into his personal business will irk him. He also is pretty displeased with being accused of being sexist, anyone who claims he's soft toward women or doesn't think them strong enough really bothers him, because he knows he's not any of those things. It frustrates him when people can't see that.

Reminder :: How are they at remembering daily needs? What falls through the cracks?

Zoro's fine with his routine, he doesn't forget things. Aside from his poor sense of direction, he's quite capable.

Sing :: Do they like music? Do they listen often/sing/hum/play songs in their head?

He likes listening but not participating. He doesn't sing, and doesn't even hum or whistle.

Touch :: How do they handle contact? Is their personal bubble big?

Zoro is situationally tactile. He doesn't really want to be touched, himself, by anyone but his close friends in the crew, and doesn't reach out to strangers at all if he can help it. But even among the crew, he's more likely to pat Chopper or Luffy than anyone else, and he really doesn't touch the girls at all. So, it's only male friends that he really responds to via touch. Even Sanji - they get really close to one another, right in each other's faces, foreheads pressed together, when they get heated up. Proximity and contact aren't a problem for him. On the other hand, he's very guarded around strangers and I don't think he's generally okay with most women touching him in a familiar way. Mostly, when they're coming across as flirty, he doesn't like that.

Upcoming :: How much do they think of the future? Do they make long-term plans?

He's got his dream, which is now tied to Luffy's dream, and that's all he thinks about. Everything else is take-it-as-it-comes. He's not worried about the day to day plans, the come about as they go.

Vice :: What bad habits do they have? Is there something they would be ashamed of?

He tends to nap at inconvenient times, and not go off with the crew to do things if he just doesn't feel like it. But, aside maybe from getting into fights too big for him and ending up shredded to hell and back, no, he doesn't really have any bad habits. He doesn't even acknowledge his poor sense of direction, he thinks it's everyone's fault but his own that he gets lost. He has some bad blind spots but no habits - he can't even get completely drunk on a normal-person's supply of booze. Is it a bad habit that he only showers once a week?

Wardrobe :: What’s their fashion style? Do they have any staple pieces?

Zoro has no style, it's well-established. He wears the same black pants every day, and his haramaki. He used to wear just one shirt, even though he clearly had a few changes of clothing in his locker. Nowadays, he has several shirts and might actually change them once in a while, though he tends to wait until they get really sweaty, dirty, or bloody before earnestly doing so. He wears casual button-up shirts, short-sleeved, but doesn't button them. He has a hoodie, which he wears open as well. He also has the suit that he came to High Seas wearing, but he feels like the tight pants and suit jacket would restrict his fighting, so he doesn't want to wear it. He will always have the same pants, boots, haramaki, and bandanna around his left biceps, but he changes his shirt now. He still had to rely on Sanji to pick out some clothes for him, though, because he still sucks at knowing what would look good on him or what he would like.

And he sleeps in his clothes.

X-Ray :: How’s their health? Any problem areas? Do they take care of themselves?

He is exceptionally healthy, aside from his left eye being scarred shut. He works out and eats well, and his booze habit doesn't seem to hold him back at all. He doesn't get plastered, doesn't get hangovers, and has a high metabolism (not as high as Luffy's but).

Yack :: What’s their favorite thing to talk about? What do they go on about?

He's not much of a talker. He doesn't prattle on about anything.

Zodiac :: What’s their astro sign? Does it fit? What would you pick, if it’s unknown?

He's a Scorpio. I have no idea whether it fits him.
